• Marketing Message

It wasn’t that long ago I was on a Zoom call with a private client and we were discussing the best way to promote her business.

I asked her what she had done in the past, what worked, what didn’t and, what recent proven strategies she would be willing to test.

We started working through my top four ways for her to market her business and we found that two out of the four were missing in her marketing strategy.

It was one of those “aha” moments that she’ll never forget. 🙂 #ijustlovethat

Now, more than ever, it’s important to be crystal clear in your marketing message about who you help and how you help.

Many coaches that I work with believe that the more people they market to the more customers they’ll get. While on the surface this seems like a reasonable conclusion the reality is it’s the exact opposite.

A better strategy is to identify your ideal client identity – the people who will benefit most from what you’re offering and then create programs and marketing messages that appeal just to them. If you build something they love they’ll spread the word for you and become your biggest raving fan.

4 WAYS TO DIAL IN YOUR MARKETING MESSAGE LEADING TO MORE CLIENTS

STRATEGY #1: Choose your niche
By choosing a specific niche, not only are you more likely to appeal to that specific audience, but you’ll become known as an expert in that field and will be able to offer more relevant expertise.

We have an excellent 3-part series that we did on the podcast all about how to identify your ideal client. This is a true mini training and does a deep dive into the topic from 3 different approaches and includes a step-by-step workbook.

If you haven’t listened to those episodes yet and are still trying to identify your ideal client then this is a must listen right away. We have linked up all three episodes in the show notes but for reference they are episodes 163, 164, and 165.

STRATEGY #2: Get to know your audience
Once you have your laser targeted niche figured out, you need to research what that person actually wants from you to solve their problem.

To do this, ask yourself some questions about your prospective audience:

  • What are their demographics (age, gender, race, occupation, etc.)
  • What are their goals – what does a solution look like to them
  • What are their challenges – what are their biggest hurdles at the moment
  • What are the words and phrases they are using to describe their problem

By answering these questions, you should be able to develop a profile of your ideal customer.

STRATEGY #3: Create your audience’s dream program
Based on the profile you develop you can start creating new programs and services (or adapt existing ones) to meet your audience’s unique needs.

This means that instead of trying to find customers for your business you’re building a business for your customers.

You can also utilize the information you’ve gathered on your audience to create marketing campaigns just for them. This often leads to higher conversion rates.

STRATEGY #4: Ignore those that say “this isn’t for me”
There will be those that might not do business with you because your offerings aren’t geared towards them. They may even voice their displeasure over this.

Don’t let it get to you.

If you start making sacrifices to appeal to these people there will be others that want you to make changes for them as well. And then before you know it your brand will lose what makes it special.

Instead, keep focusing on your ideal customer. Those are the people who will become lifelong customers and advocates for your brand.

Your ideal client is out there and they’re waiting for a program that’s designed just for them.
