Today’s topic of discussion is one that is passionately debated inside online marketing circles every day. It’s the topic of whether or not to use website pop-ups on your website.

Derek Halpern from Social Triggers said not that long ago that if you don’t use a popup you’re an idiot.

That’s a pretty strong statement so I’m thinking he had some pretty strong data to back it up.

Ok… with that in mind let’s break this down.

Do Website Pop-Ups Really Work And Are They Right For Your Business?

You’re building an online business so you already know that you must have a free offer on your homepage, above the fold, that entices visitors to share their name and email in exchange for valuable content from you.

But what about all of your other website pages? Are those pages collecting names and emails?

Sure you can have a sign up box in the sidebar column but is that really going to grab the attention of a website visitor?

Did you know that you can set up different free offers on different pages with pop-ups? Yes, that’s right… you can customize what popup gets seen on what page.

So let me ask you this question… what’s you’re biggest hesitation in using a popup?

When I ask my clients that question the most common answer is this,

“I hate popups and I don’t want to annoy my website visitors with them.”

If you feel that way, here’s one thing I think we can agree upon… they are without a doubt attention getting. Right?

And don’t you want your free offer to get attention?

In researching this topic, believe it or not, I couldn’t find one article that could verify that popups reduced the number of optins each day. Nope! Not one.

Instead there was one article after the other with statistical data proving that popups DO WORK!

For example, an article that was put out by Shopify last year confirmed that in one test they conducted reported that they were able to capture 1375% more emails with a popup than a sidebar optin form.

Another case study from that article reported that a certain website was receiving only 10 to 15 subscribers per day even though they had 44,000 unique visitors per day on their site.

After implementing a popup they began receiving 100-150 email optins per day.

Holy list building… that’s a 1000% increase.

I don’t think there is a business owner on earth that wouldn’t take a 1000% increase in new leads for their business.

Am I right?

Remember, just because you hate popups doesn’t mean everyone does. Your website visitors may appreciate you shining a spotlight on the valuable information you offer.

Your goal when someone new visits your website is to get them on your email list as soon as possible.

So we’ve established that popups do, in fact, work.

Now let’s review the 3 most popular options that I hear talked about all of the time.

  1. Thrive Leads
  2. Optin Monster
  3. Popup Domination

All three of these are great options and believe me there are lots more to choose from.

For the 3 options mentioned, I speak from experience because I’ve used all three.

So it’s time to make a decision. Truthfully, what have you got to lose?
