Secret sauce?? Are you wondering what in the world I’m talking about? Well, I promise you it’s not your favorite barbeque or dipping sauce. Instead I’m talking about the secret sauce in your 2014 business plan. Do you know what your secret sauce is?
You know I’m always talking about the importance of having a business plan. Specifically, a business plan that lets you know each morning when you wake which profit generating activities you’ll be completing for your business that day. All you have to do is look at the current date and sha-zam… you know exactly what you’re working on for the day. How great is that?
Today though, I want to dig a little deeper. Let’s not just stop at your business plan and how essential having one is to your success. Let’s dig a little deeper and study the thing I like to call your “secret sauce”.
Knowing what your secret sauce is can save you so much wasted time and money while building your business. It’s the thing that can throw much of the drudgery of building a successful health & fitness business right out the window. Instead it’s consistently a fun and rewarding experience.
Are you ready to get really, really clear on where you can find your secret sauce so your 2014 business plan will totally rock? Ok… here we go.
Secret Sauce Recipe #1 – Who Is Your Ideal Client?
I know you’ve heard it before… how important it is to know who your target market is but I want to challenge you to identify who your ideal client is. There is a significant difference. You can do this by imagining your ideal client sitting across the table from you. Is it a man or women, what age are they, are they married or single, etc. Get very specific and very clear on who you are speaking to… one person… not an entire market. This will make it much easier to create programs, services & marketing materials when you are only identifying one person.
Secret Sauce Recipe #2 – What Are Your Ideal Social Media Platforms?
Let’s face it… the world of social media is getting bigger everyday. It seems like we’re constantly hearing about new platforms and why they are the next best way to market your business. Truth is, you can’t effectively market on every platform unless you have a team of people managing it for you. So, the bottom line is that you need to pick 2 or 3 platforms that work best for you and your business.
Health & fitness is a very visual business. Platforms that offer the ability to showcase images and video are ideal for someone marketing a health and fitness business. Facebook is always a top contender. Pinterest and InstaGram are also excellent platforms for a health and fitness business because they are image/video centric. Which platforms do you think work best for you?
Secret Sauce Recipe #3 – What Marketing Channels Do You Excel In?
There are more ways to market your business than can be counted on two hands, (and two feet for that matter). Knowing which 2 – 4 channels you’re the best at gives you an exceptional edge over your competitors.
Which do you enjoy, public speaking or writing? Is program development something you love or do you prefer the teaching aspect of your program? Are you great with getting behind a camera to create a video or is audio where you’re most comfortable? Getting clear on where you are comfortable and what you’re good at takes all the discomfort out of marketing your business. If you’re uncomfortable behind a camera then don’t do video… no matter what anyone tells you. Find the channels that work best for you and stick with them. It’s undoubtedly YOUR road to success.
So there you have it… three secret sauce recipes you can apply to your 2014 business plan development strategy. Stop fighting your success by going against your natural grain. You are 100% unique so identify what you do best and don’t let anything hold you back from making a difference in the world.
